Researchers have discovered that honey bees can only seem to count to four.

Researcher Mandyam Srinivasan is quoted as saying: “The more we look at these creatures that have a brain the size of a sesame seed, the more astonished we are…”
Finally, I’ve found something that’s worse with figures than I am!

I just bought tickets for Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of The Worlds 30th Anniversary Tour, June 2009.
The War of The Worlds is going back out on the road for the third time in 3 years, the last shows were in 2007. I only found out about the tours last year, and so I registered on the TWOTW website to be kept informed of any future developments.

I drove down to Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire today with Sue & Emma and had a great day out. It wasn’t cheap though, with tickets that covered all the attractions costing £22 each, plus food etc.
In 1966, Longleat caused a revolution in the world of zoological collections by becoming the first location outside Africa to open a drive-through Safari Park.

This afternoon I drove to Caswell Bay as I had the day off work and wanted something to do.
Caswell is a sandy beach on the Gower peninsula, South Wales. It’s a popular destination for both visitors and locals all year round, situated ten minutes drive from Mumbles village. When conditions prevail, this is a popular surfing beach, particularly at mid to high tide.
I nearly got cut off from dry land as I was taking photos with my back to the sea at one point. The tide comes in very quickly!
There is a coastal path east to Langland Bay with spectacular views across the Bristol Channel to North Devon. I didn’t walk the full one and a half miles of the path but I plan to revisit the area again next summer and explore further.

The biggest earthquake in the UK for nearly 25 years shook homes across large parts of the country this morning.
The British Geological Survey (BGS) said the quake measured 5.2 on the Richter magnitude scale (ML) and the epicentre was near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire. The main 10-second quake struck at 00:56 GMT at a depth of 9.6 miles, and an aftershock with a magnitude of 1.8 was recorded at about 04:00 GMT.
Well I didn’t hear or feel a thing last night, I was tucked up in bed and fast asleep. People closer to the epicentre had a disturbed night however, and it appears many buildings have suffered some structural damage. A man in Wombwell, South Yorkshire, suffered a broken pelvis when he was pinned under collapsed chimney masonry in his attic bedroom. There may well have been more people injured if the quake had struck during daylight hours, as falling bricks landed on pavements and in gardens.
The West Midlands was hit by an earthquake in 2002 in the Dudley area that reached a magnitude of 5.0 ML and one measuring 4.3 ML hit Folkestone in Kent last year.
